Sat. 21st April: Dramatic Skies in Pastel

Suitable for experienced pastellists as well as those with a little prior experience. Explore using pastel to create dramatic blended colours, infused with light and movement on Fisher 400 and Clairefontaine pastel papers. A chance to get to grips with controlling detail, drama, movement and colour along with balancing the composition to best effect.

Sat 26th May: An Introduction to Pastels

A workshop suitable for beginners and those wanted a refresher course. During this workshop we will explore some different papers and experiment with different pastel techniques and the variety of ways of working. A chance to explore pastel with advice and instruction when needed.

Fri. 15th June: Mixed media with pastels

During this workshop explore using pastel liquefier, watercolour and inks to create background washes on Fisher 400 paper. Work over in pastels to create detail and texture. Experiment with the unique challenge of mixing media to create dramatic and atmospheric works of art.

Sat.24th June: Landscapes in Pastel

In the stunning setting of the Dove Valley Centre… a workshop suitable for those with prior experience of working in pastel as well as confident beginners. A chance to explore a wide range of pastel techniques to create atmospheric landscapes.

Sat. 7th July: Exploring Sunsets in Pastel

Create beautiful and colourful pastel sunsets and sunrises using Clairefontaine paper. Learn to control detailed colours along with light and contrast to create dramatic works of art. Suitable for beginners and experienced pastellists.

Fri. 7th September: Exploring Seascapes in Pastel

A workshop suitable for those with prior experience of working in pastel as well as confident beginners. A chance to explore a wide range of pastel techniques to create atmospheric seascapes. Experiment with a different aspects of pastel to show movement, light, reflection and depth.

Sat. 6th October: A Sense of Place

Working on a larger scale creates works of atmosphere with a genuine sense of place. You are invited to spend the day working with pastels and land, sea or sky on A2 pastel paper (the type of your choice) exploring the inherent challenges of working on this scale- from compositional elements through to creating a balanced finished work- all with an experienced tutor to help and guide. It is a unique opportunity to push your skills that will give you the satisfaction of real achievement.

Fri. 10th November: An Introduction to Pastels

Sat 1st December: Pastels and Papers

A workshop suitable for both the very experienced and complete beginners. Explore a wide variety of pastel papers along with the diverse techniques that can be used to make the most of them. A chance to learn about all the different effects available to artists working in pastel.

Bespoke workshops or demonstrations designed to meet your needs:

Qualified Art Educator with over 20 years experience in teaching, developing and leading workshops, demonstrations and classes. Clients include High Peak Community Arts, Buxton Opera House, Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Derbyshire County Council, Marple Art Society, Derby Sketching Club, Stockport Art Guild.

Cost guidance: £100 for a two hour demonstration (£150 if over 20 miles). £220 for a days bespoke tuition.

For Art Groups and Schools- Sample Sessions:

-Creating Pastel Landscapes. Half hour demonstration followed by one and half hour practical workshop. Some materials provided.

-Pastels Seascapes. Two hour demonstration using layers of pastel and tools to create dramatic sea and skyscapes.

-Artist led one day workshops. Group tuition exploring the Peak District landscape learning to use a variety of pastel techniques and styles.

-Children’s Workshops. In a wide variety of materials and themes- exciting and dynamic learning experiences.
