Biography
I received my degree in Fine Art from Canterbury
College of Art in 1990 and my postgraduate quualification in art teaching
from Goldsmiths College, London. Now based in a cottage on a hill above Buxton,
Derbyshire, I am inspired by the ever-changing colours and weather of the
moorland scenery that surrounds my home and studio in the heart of the Peak
District.
I work in a variety of sizes in soft (conte) pastels- with some work also
in watercolour + pen and ink. My work is inspired by the texture of natural
forms within landscapes- from trees to stone. I focus on the seasonal colours
within the moorland landscapes of England, Scotland and Wales. I try to communicate
the intricate range of tones and details in stone or the bark of trees- in
contrast to the perspectives of distance, sense of place and of time passing.
I am a member of the High Peak Artists and Craft Workers Association, selling
work through its ongoing exhibition spaces in the heart of Buxton. I am also
a member of Peak District Products (www.peakdistrictproducts.co.uk).
I take part in a large number of shows throughout the year- including group
shows with Peak District Products and The Artist and Designers Fairs in Buxton.
My work can also be seen in a number of galleries in Derbyshire and Cheshire.
I am also published illustrator. My most recent work can be seen in the internal
illustrations of ‘The Lost Souls Reunion’ by Suzanne Power- published
by Picador books in the United Kingdom and St Martins Books in the United
States.
I am a trained and experienced art teacher and regularly run workshops for
art groups and societies.
Both original work and limited edition fine art prints available.
Commissions welcome.
